Hey there, I’m Emma.
I am a writer, poet and essayist living in the Ocean State. I write on arts and culture, from film and music, to socio political topics, and philosophy.
I live in a place that has been called “the land in between” by the Narragansett for a long time. I strive to give credence to this place and place name, by not standing still when it comes to thinking and writing. I try to stay in between.
I’ve worked and studied many areas during my life. To name a few fields I’ve worked within are carpentry, ecology and wildlife research, farming and agriculture, music and dance, modeling, writing and more. No discipline stands alone, and I’m excited to share my multitude of passions with you. I am also a voracious reader and book collector. I’m not sure what writer isn’t.
I’m a current student at GrubStreet Creative Writing Center in Boston, focusing on a year long program in essay writing.
The name thesolidpage began with the idea that we can create solid ideas, and put them to the page. In following our ancestors who marked stones and solid objects with thoughts and art to communicate, this writing thing is an ongoing act of recreation. What is more solid than that? So much art is still communicating to us thousands of years later, and that I think, is a solid mark to leave.
